The shoes feel lighter on foot than their actual weigh, which is a major plus.

They also remain comfortable on longer runs.

Furthermore they are perfect for distances up to a marathon without wearing you down.

Not even when you pick up the pace.

They are true to size, just in my case due to having 2 different feet, meaning 2 different sizes, the upper was a bit more spacious on one, but I’m used to things like that.

In other reviews i did found people that complained that the sizing for some was not true to size.

As always take it with a grain of salt and in doubt head over to your local running store!

Midsole / Outsole

The midsole is made up of a softer nitrogen-infused PEBA, and a slightly firmer nitrogen-infused EVA.

The heel incorporates the EVA foam, while the softer Elite PEBA foam is found in the mid-foot and forefoot. This results in a slightly firmer initial contact, but the forward transition into the softer foam ensures a smoother toe-off experience. Which is very effective.

The Puma grip outsole, made of a very robust rubber, provides excellent grip even in wet conditions. Its pattern makes it suitable for various conditions.

Although there is some foam exposed at the mid-foot, this hasn’t caused any problems.

A potential downside is the shoes’ tendency to pick up rocks.

I’ve already experienced stones getting stuck twice.

Which i hope isn’t working as designed haha

Upper

Puma Deviate Nitro 2

The upper doesn’t offer much stretch, but it ensures a good fit and ventilation. Even on rainy runs, I found them comfortable.

Luckily they also didn’t produce any irritating squeaky sounds.

The quality of the upper appears to be premium, featuring a double layer that provides a denser structure while still ensuring enough ventilation.

The laces have a slight stretch in them, just enough for me to like them haha

They work good together with the upper to provide a good fit.

Didn’t felt the need to do the runners knob which says a lot.

The cushioning around the heel is great, including the protection for the Achilles.

Perhaps the heel tab could have been slightly larger.

Additionally, a small pull tab at the heel would be a nice addition.

The tongue is slightly cushioned, more so at the top and than at the bottom.

The level of padding is ideal though, ensuring that the laces don’t place too much pressure on the top of your foot. Plus, it’s a gusseted tongue, guaranteeing it stays perfectly positioned.

Durability

Puma Deviate Nitro 2

Owning a great shoe is one thing, but if it lacks durability, it may not be the right one for you…

Well, you’re in luck because this shoe appears to be highly durable!

Almost had you fooled there, didn’t I?

Based on my experience, the Puma grip rubber outsole looks very promising. After covering approximately 100km in them, there’s barely any visible wear and tear.

Even though I had some doubts about the upper, upon further close inspection, it seems that Puma’s addition of extra protections could potentially enhance its durability beyond my initial expectations.

First of all the extended outsole protection at the front of the shoe, giving additional protection to the upper and toes.

Secondly, the power tape reinforcement which Puma included on the outer front side and the inner side across the midfoot is expected to slow down the wear and tear process.

I can only cheer this on! Whoop whoop!

In addition, I don’t anticipate any problems with the shoe’s tongue. It continues to offer comfort and maintains its initial cushioning.

Initially, I was worried about the heel padding, but given the shoe’s ability to dry quickly and the padding’s current condition, it’s evident that they will maintain their comfort for a long time.

Given their quick-drying nature, I don’t anticipate them developing an unpleasant odor. However, this largely depends on your maintenance and care for them in the long run…

The shoe laces, while moderately soft, are of exceptional quality, contributing to their durability. They continue to maintain their initial look and feel.

Ultimately, considering their robustness, the type of foam used, and other features, I anticipate they will last somewhere between 600 to 800km.

I do need to mention that it’s a shoe to my liking.

Summary

Here’s a brief overview of the Puma Deviate Nitro 2: It’s an excellent shoe that’s well-suited for quicker paces and can comfortably handle distances up to a marathon. I’d suggest using them for road running or light dirt trails.

Though the rock catcher isn’t a feature I’m particularly fond of, I know that it’s not an intentional design element from Puma (or at least, I hope it isn’t). Nonetheless, it could be a bit annoying.

The combination of the two foam types and the carbon fiber plate is highly effective. While the initial contact with the ground may feel slightly firm, the transition towards the toe-off provides an excellent balance and energy return. This could potentially be why the weight isn’t particularly noticeable.

With being true to size, having a comfortable upper, complemented by a thin yet adequately padded gusseted tongue and having semi-soft laces, makes this a great running shoe.

Furthermore if you add the durability and then the carbon plate, then this makes it an excellent choice for a daily trainer, especially since it’s in a price range with shoes that normally don’t have a carbon plate.

If you’re a runner new to the experience of running with a carbon plate then this shoe is highly suitable for you. It offers an excellent running experience at an affordable price, allowing you to enjoy quality without breaking the bank.

And that concludes my review of the Puma deviate nitro 2.
