The Supernova Rise was released on December 1st 2023.

It’s a bit more on the heavy side, but from all that padding and such this was something I was already expecting
It’s a neutral daily trainer suitable for your easy pace runs.

Midsole / Outsole

It features a Dreamstrike plus midsole foam, which is actually a foam based upon peba, the highly efficient and energy returning foam usually found on the more higher end shoes.

But there is a big distinction between them in my opinion since the Dreamstrike plus seems to be a lot more compressed.

Underneath there is an energy rod system which is also just foam based and should help evenly distribute the energy and provide extra stability underfoot.

The outsole rubber is from Adidas themselves, they opted to not use the continental rubber that we see very often underneath their shoes.
It is however a very good looking rubber and it’s devided up into 3 separate sections.

There isn’t really any exposed midsole, practically the entire outsole area it pretty much protected apart from a couple or area’s where there are some cutouts

One thing that I find a bit strange is the midsole and outsole at the heel area as its coming up a bit on one side, it’s unclear for me what the benefit of that would be, so don’t know if it’s just esthetic or more.

Upper

The upper is well ventilated in the forefoot, but it’s thickly padded in the heel area and tongue.
The shoe is originally meant for running in the summer although they were released during the winter, but I’m pretty sure that they can run a bit hot at the top of your foot or at your heel.

The heel lock is amazing though, they feel like a stability shoe once you put them on.
But they are not really marketed as such.

The amount of padding at your achilles will protect it for the long run.
Furthermore the heel area itself is also reenforced, contributing to that good stability feeling that I was mentioning
The tongue is non gusseted but stays good in place

As already briefly pointed out, it’s a thick tongue, it’s comfortable, but I would have been satisfied with a slightly thinner version.

The upper towards the front is definitely not thick, it’s a thin 2 layer knitted structure that provides excellent ventilation.
at the sides there is a hidden reenforcement build in to protect the upper, this goes also towards the front to protect the toes.

Last but not least, the laces are stretchy and a bit long but they are of high quality and the insoles can be removed if you prefer running with orthopetic ones.

Pro's

It’s an ooh so comfortable shoe.
When I slipped them on the first time they felt really good.
Adidas should also do some marketing to recommend these for runners that need additional stability

Furthermore The laces provide a good lock and since they are a bit stretchy, they give the right amount of wriggle room to not be too tight either

the upper doesn’t have any stretch, but it’s true to size in my case so nothing bad to say here
The grip from the outsole has been tested and approved, even in the rain they hold up pretty good so even without chosing for the continental rubber, Adidas created a very good outsole

That the midsole foam is peba instead of Eva is definitely not a bad thing especially in terms of durability, it also makes that the energy return different.

Just don’t start expecting the same midsole energy return like more elite shoes that have a 100% peba midsole, here it’s more compressed so still a bit different, you feel that it’s not completely the same but it’s not bad either.

Con's

You might notice that it could get a bit warm at the heel or at the top of your foot.
Especially the amount of padding at the top of your foot is a bit too much, it does feel great to absorb the pressure from the laces, but running in some warmer temperatures could be noticed.

The laces are a bit too long, I need to do a double knot to make sure that they are not annoying me on a run
At some places I have a bit my doubts about the strength of the upper and if it will hold, at the sides the ventilation holes are so close to each other that I’m afraid the upper will tear after a while

Short list so that’s a good sign, right?

Summary

The Adidas Supernova Rise is a brand new addition in the Supernova line.
It’s also one of 3 new additions in fact, the others are Supernova Stride and Supernova Solution which got released a bit later than the rise, on February 22 2024 to be exact.

In terms of durability I’m betting on somewhere between 6 to 800km. Mainly my biggest concern would be if the upper at the sides will hold or not.
The midsole foam is PEBA so that’s very durable, but also after a while the spark will go out of it.

Adidas themselves claim that the shoes might run a bit small and they recommend sizing up based on the number of returns that they got.

There are slight differences between them, but it’s not a lot to be honest.
Furthermore it’s a great daily trainer suitable for a lot of people, without breaking the bank.
They are available for 150€ and you can find them in several different colors but not in different widths.
