Altra is releasing their first non zero-drop shoe!
Who would have thought this day would ever come…

They did choose a strange name for this new model “AltraFWD Experience”.

This shoe is designed to be a daily trainer for on the road.
It has a stack height of 32mm in the heel and 28mm in the forefoot for men and 28mm in the heel and 24mm in the forefoot for women.

The difference in stack height between men and women is also very particular to say the least.
it’s not clear why they opted for this though!
Perhaps there is some science behind this, well I would like to read more about that…

The main reason why Altra decided to launch a shoe with a drop seems to be because they realised that zero-drop shoes are hard for some to adjust to.
Apparently a drop of around 4mm seems to be more natural, well who would have thought that 🤷‍♂️

This does not mean that Altra will stop with zero-drop shoes, not at all.
Their way of thinking is evolving as they would like to be more suitable for a bigger audience, which is not bad, but after all those years of claiming that zero-drop is the “thing” and now trying to take that back is like 😑

The shoe itself has a standard foot shape and not the slim foot shape.
It has a clean and good looking upper, the design is getting more into the same line as the Saucony Triumph 21 for example.

The midsole is a standard EVA foam, not much special there.

The outsole does look sufficient for normal road running, but if you are going to run a bit more in the mud then probably the grip wouldn’t be sufficient.
Durability will also be a very good question…

It will be released in four colour ways for both men and women

Only the retail price for the US is know for the moment, which will be 140$.
We can probably expect them in the EU and UK for 170€/150£.

Apparently there are 2 more FWD models coming out in 2024, this shoe is only the first step for Altra, but will they limit themselves to that 4mm drop as a maximum or will they diversify even more…

Let me know down in the comments what your thought are about this new move from Altra, would you buy their first non zero-drop shoe?
