2nd MARATHON in 2 WEEKS – Ultra training EP9

Episode 9 of my 10 weeks ultra training.

In this video i take you along my journey in running a 2nd marathon in 2 weeks.
As you will see in the video, it was a struggle.

I started off too fast, even though i said to take it easy, whoops 🙂

Secondly around the 13Km mark, i missed an arrow on the course, which caused that i did a section of the course twice.
This added around 2,5Km to the total distance.

For this marathon i didn’t wanted to take any risk so i decided to wear my Saucony Peregrine 12 trail shoes instead of the Nike Air Zoom Terra Kiger 8’s.
That was a good choice, even though i still had a small discomfort at my right foot, but that wasn’t due to the shoes, but due to the fact that my foot wasn’t healed completely yet.

Temperatures during the marathon was between 14 and 16 degrees, but around Km 3 it started to rain, and yes it lasted until the end.
I was soaking wet.

At a certain point my Garmin HRM-Pro heart rate monitor began to give me discomforts while running.
When i lowered it a bit on my chest, the discomfort went away, but it’s not the first time that i encountered this to be honest.
Usually this is when i’m sweating a lot and the heart rate monitor starts sliding.
If i put it on too tight it hurts, if i put it on too loose than it drops, the damn thing isn’t easy haha

The last few Km’s of the race were the hardest, i really needed to dig deep to reach the end.
Couple of times i had the feeling i couldn’t go any further, but i continued on pure stubbornness and auto pilot.

In the end i don’t regret that i did 2 marathons in 2 weeks, in each marathon i learned a lot.

In this marathon i learned that you really need to pay close attention to the arrows! that one arrow was not placed very good in sight and i didn’t realised that i didn’t came across another one for a while.
Also disabling the turn notifications on my watch wasn’t a good move, this also caused my watch to alert me way too late that i took a wrong turn.

Next week will be a bit calmer, no 3rd marathon for the moment as i need to prepare for my UTMB world event in France on the 22nd of May.

As previously mentioned, i share additional information either in the description of my videos, through shorts or on Instagram.
