What a race! Valencia you were amazing 🤩
On December 3rd 2023 the 43rd edition of the Valencia marathon took place in, yeah you guessed it Valencia Spain 🇪🇸.
If you haven’t been to Valencia then you are definitely missing out.
First off all it’s a very beautiful city, and to be able to run a marathon in these streets is just a cherry on top!
The marathon officially started at 8h15, but i was in the 4th starting block (color purple), which started at 8h45 on the dot.
For me this was the biggest marathon to date in which i participated.
It was a well organized marathon, although there are some points that are worth mentioning:
– You received water battles at the refreshment stations, this made it a bit dangerous when going through these areas, because other runners threw them all over the place.
The last thing you would like is to walk on such a bottle and fall…
– It was marked on the course map that there were toilets at every refreshments station, well i haven’t seen any toilets though 🤷♂️ It might have just missed them (every time?) but didn’t see any.
The temperature around start was 8 degrees Celsius, by the time i finished it was 19 degrees Celsius.
Since i wasn’t wearing my hydration pack and was carrying a soft flask from Salomon (500ml), i got a bit dehydrated due to the fact that i didn’t practiced it enough up front.
I only tried it once on my long run before, in Belgium, when it wasn’t so warm 🙈
It did refilled my bottle, or drank from a water bottle at the race itself, but the electrolytes were not in balance.
You know that it’s not good when your mouth is dry, and stays dry, even if you drink something.
I tried to make the best of it and get to the finish line to get the best time possible.
But as you can imagine, i started to slow down…
My goal time for the marathon in Valencia was to run a sub 3 hours and 20 minutes.
I let you to find out if i succeeded or not.
All i can say is, this race was amazing and such a beautiful experience.
Because of that i can already say that i will be at the starting line on December 1st 2024 for the 44rd edition! YEAH BABY! 😉
