If you have any experience with the Guide 16, you will quickly notice that the specifications look almost identical, just the weight of the Guide 16 is 10 grams more.

It’s a neutral daily trainer for running on the road or treadmill.

Basically the shoe is more directed towards running in the summer, but they can also be used during the other seasons of course, yeah baby!

The shoe is ideal for your easy pace daily runs up until half marathon distance, but you can also use it for a speedy 5K.

For me It’s true to size, the upper also feels great but durability in general may be a bit questionable, but more on that later on..

Midsole / Outsole

The midsole and outsole are identical to the ride 15.
Which is a pwrrun EVA based midsole and as you might not know, this is the more entry level foam from Saucony.

It’s a bit more firm and less responsive in comparison with the pwrrun+ which is an TPU based foam.

An EVA foam is also known to be a little less durable in comparison with a TPU foam.

In the beginning I did have the feeling that the midsole needed a bit of a break in period, something I didn’t encountered with the Guide.

After a couple of runs this got better, so not really a problem to be honest.

The midsole is also pretty resistant to outside temperatures, as such you will have a comparable run in a warm or colder climate.

For the Guide, probably due to the Hollow-Tech plastic plate, this is not the case, so there you will notice a difference.

The outsole is equipped with Saucony’s XT-900 rubber, which is a premium carbon rubber that will give you a good amount of grip and durability.

It performs good on roads or mild dry trails but it could sometimes get a bit slippery.

The shoe also provided a little bit of stability but people that tend to have an overpronation are better of with the Guide.

Upper

Saucony Ride 16

The outer layer has excellent breathability and ventilation, perfect for running in some warmer conditions, which is a big difference if you compare this to the Guide.

As you can see, there are plenty of ventilation holes, even around the heel area.

But due to all that ventilation, the amount of water that could get in also increases.

I don’t find them really suited for running in the rain.

The upper isn’t too stretchy, but still sits pretty good, as mentioned for me the shoe is true to size, and on a bit longer runs, the upper still feels great.

Around the heel there is a good amount of padding to keep your feet in place.

They are also very easy to put on.

The heel area itself is reenforced and goes around your complete heel.

Including the heel tab which feels pretty secure and is in my opinion better than on the Guide.

This is something that I also liked as this gives an additional stability feeling.

For the rest It also has a gusseted tongue which has a good amount of padding.

At first I was a bit concerned if the tongue wouldn’t cause the heat to build up at the top of my foot, it’s not perfect but it was acceptable.

Since it’s a gusseted tongue, it also remains very good in place.

Finally we have the laces.

Big fan of these, they got a good amount of stretch which is something I like very much

The length is also perfect if you would need to do the runners knob.

Durability

Saucony Ride 16

Currently the outsole still looks very good.

The exposed midsole on the other hand you clearly see some wear and tear and that after only 100K.

Perhaps that wouldn’t be an issue in the long run, but difficult to predict at this point in time.

Since the upper isn’t very thick I also doubt that this would be very durable.

Especially if it would get wet a couple of times then I think the upper could suffer from it.

I do also question the durability of the laces, as you can see after 100km they do have some wear and tear.

There is a change that they would need to be replaced before the shoe itself it decommissioned.

Because of that I’m estimating that the shoe could last for around 6 to 700km.

Which could off course be better, but if you take the exposed midsole, thin upper and wear and tear on the laces into account, then you could see some potential durability issues.

Summary

To wrap up, the Saucony Ride 16 is a decent daily trainer which will provide you with a good run at your easy pace up until a half marathon or a speedy 5K.

The weight of the shoe is also pretty good, so they won’t be a problem on longer runs.

Do take into account that the midsole is a bit stiff, so there is a little bit less responsiveness.

The grip is pretty good but it might get a bit slippery when the ground is wet.

The upper feels great and is comfortable plus well ventilated even in warmer conditions.

Running in the rain on the other hand is obviously not really advised, unless if you like wet feet.

The shoe costs around 150 euro.

But with the lower durability I would not buy them for that price to be honest, a price of around 120€ seems more suitable.

If you look a bit around on the internet, you will definitely find them around that price, or even lower!
